InterContinental Bali Sanur Resort by IHG

Highly recommend this hotel. We upgraded our room to a king beachside. Room was HUGE, could have hosted around 30ppl comfortably due to size of room and balcony. 100% recommend the brekky, you can order al le carte and then add whatever you want from the buffet i.e pastries, mushrooms, variety of fresh juices, fruit, yoghurt etc... Decent gym downstairs near the pool. There are 3 pools at 0.5m, 0.9m, and then around 1.5m for the main infinity pool. They are all good temp and not too cold! We had dinner at pier8 restaurant which is on the beach. Very affordable, good atmosphere, and good food. We also had drinks on the pier8 beachfront chairs where our son enjoyed playing on the beach (within view) while we relaxed. The only fault is that Red Bull had some event on the beach so the music was loud one night...completely out of the hotels control, they also apologised and provided a fruit basket the next day.

Last night, I attended a dear friend’s birthday celebration at ✨ InterContinental Bali Sanur Resort ✨, and the experience left a truly lasting impression. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, but what stood out the most was the exceptional hospitality from the entire team. I would especially like to recognize Mr. Okta from the security team. His service was truly outstanding. He did not simply remain at the security post — after warmly opening the gate for me, he kindly escorted me all the way to the restaurant. Such genuine care, attentiveness, and initiative created a wonderful first impression and reflected true hospitality. During our afternoon tea experience, I was equally impressed by the service from Ayu, Pasek, and a trainee named Intan. Their service was warm, sincere, and highly professional. They made us feel welcomed and contributed greatly to making the occasion even more special. Great hospitality comes from a great team and thoughtful leadership. My sincere appreciation to the management of InterContinental Bali Sanur Resort for maintaining such excellent service standards and training their staff so well. Special shout out to Mr. Okta, Ayu, Pasek, and Intan — thank you for making our experience so memorable. Definitely not quite the standard I was expecting. The new lobby area is beautiful but it feels like all effort has been put into that area and the rest has been forgotten about. Only one water feature at the main pool is working and another whole water feature to the side of the pool looks derelict. My room was a long way from reception and the further you walked the more lights that weren’t working. I think about 2 out of 12 were by the time we got to our room. Certainly not 5 star standard. Breakfast was great, especially the Nasi Campur station and the staff in that area were great. It’s time to put some effort in to the property and get it up to a 5 star standard.

Unfortunately have to give a 1 star rating due to a very serious issue. On the second night of our stay, 19/12/2025, my partner and I attended the Nayala beach club where we both had a few drinks and some food. Within an hour, I started to feel extremely unwell and ended up requiring a doctor to attend our suite. It was discovered that I had methanol poisoning which can result in death if left untreated. Thankfully the doctor was able to reverse the poisoning and I am now doing ok although I am still struggling to keep food down and am still experiencing dizziness, abdominal discomfort and nausea. When we informed a staff member and then a manager, all we were told is “oh we are sorry” we then tried to escalate this to IHG and received the same response. UNACCEPTABLE! You have had a hotel patron pay an expensive amount for a suite and high costs for beverages and food at your hotel that has caused quite a serious, potentially fatal, illness and all that can be said is “sorry”? No! Other than that the location is beautiful, staff are very nice and helpful and the suite was nice. Although, be warned about the food as it’s often not fully cooked and there was a few issues in the suite with it seeming quite outdated, couldn’t watch tv or connect phones for Netflix etc. will not be returning to any IHG resorts or hotels. We thought that a 5 star rating hotel would have a higher standard. We do wish to say thank you to Reni at the spa who was lovely. Do better IHG. Legal advice is currently being sought as to our options.

I wanted to like this hotel - but instead I will never stay here again. It is located in a decent part of Sanur with restaurants and bars nearby along with shopping areas. Sadly, this hotel has become decrepit and run down. The Villas are in need of a major renovation - the walls show clear signs of rising damp along with water marks from the numerous leaks they have. At night you can hear water dripping into the roof cavity (great sound to wake up to at 2am!) or you’ll see the drips coming through the down lights during a reasonable downpour. The water from taps emanate a distinct Sulfur smell, and one that is not pleasant at all when showering, suggesting that the plumbing isn’t as clean as one would expect. Finally, the exterior saw parts of the roof fall off into the pool area whilst we were staying there. Again - this reinforces the rundown nature of the hotel. If there is a particularly heavy rainfall, then the drainage system around the hotel blocks and then backwashes leaving it with the unpleasant scent of sewage and waste water. It is disgusting to say the least. Meanwhile, the lobby is closed for renovations until March (was originally December when we booked, but timelines shift I understand), so a make-shift reception is in place where the Villa lounge would normally be. Of course, no replacement has been made for said lounges. The entrance to the hotel is a narrow one-way laneway off the main road. Good luck navigating it with the cars and scooters that traverse it - you will have to navigate this stretch of road if you don’t want to head to the beach. The kids club is well designed and decked out for children. They do have a 3 hr maximum per day for children to attend (closed from 12-2pm so pick either 9-12 or 2-5pm if you want to drop your kids off). The main pool is underwhelming. There is nothing wrong with it, it’s just a basic rectangle pool with a poolside cafe attached that is basic as well. On the positives, the staff are attentive and provide excellent service. The beachside restaurant, Pier Eight, is vibrant in the evenings and in a great location. The food is decent in both the main restaurants (Pier Eight and Layang Lanyang), however, you could stay elsewhere and pay these a visit if you need too. Unfortunately I can’t recommend staying here, especially if you’re paying Villa prices for what they offer. There are much better alternatives in Sanur.
